The complete day-by-day saree colour guide for Sharad Navratri 2026 with the right fabric for garba, the right saree for puja, and exactly which House of Vardha pieces our Surat customers are wearing this season
Every August, the question starts arriving on our WhatsApp at 9265683141 in a very particular way. Not "which saree is nice" but "which colour is Day 4 again?" and "I need something orange that I can actually dance in."
We are House of Vardha a three-generation saree manufacturing house from Surat, Gujarat. Garba is not something we read about. It is something our customers live in, dance in, and call us about at 10 PM when they have realised the Day 3 colour is red and they only own maroon.
This is our complete Navratri 2026 saree guide every colour, every date, the right fabric for a garba night versus a morning puja, and the exact sarees from our catalogue that work for each day.
The 9 Colours of Sharad Navratri 2026 - Confirmed Dates
Sharad Navratri 2026 runs from Sunday 11 October to Monday 19 October, with Vijayadashami (Dussehra) on Tuesday 20 October.
Because Day 1 falls on a Sunday, the 2026 sequence opens with orange the colour of the Sun, the ruling planet of Sunday. The complete sequence: 11 October orange, 12 October white, 13 October red, 14 October royal blue, 15 October yellow, 16 October green, 17 October grey, 18 October purple, 19 October peacock green.

Before We Go Day by Day - The Most Important Question: Garba Saree or Puja Saree?
This is the question most Navratri guides skip. The answer changes everything about which saree you should buy.
Puja saree - worn for Ghatasthapana on Day 1, morning aarti, temple visits, Kanya Puja on Day 8, and Dussehra. Needs to look traditional and respectful. Can be heavier - you are sitting, standing, doing puja, not dancing.
Garba saree - worn for the evening garba and dandiya events. Needs to be light, secure in the drape, and able to handle 2–3 hours of movement. Light fabrics prevent overheating while dancing. They drape easily and look beautiful in motion. You can twirl without feeling heavy.
The honest recommendation from our Surat experience: Most women who wear sarees to Navratri choose a FeatherSoft georgette or Organza for garba nights - light enough to move in, elegant enough to photograph well. For morning puja, a slightly heavier Kanjivaram Art Silk or Tissue Silk reads correctly. If you only have budget for one saree per day, FeatherSoft is the fabric that does both most comfortably.
Day 1 — 11 October (Sunday) - Orange
Goddess: Maa Shailputri | Significance: New beginnings, energy, enthusiasm
Orange is the opening note of Navratri - warm, auspicious, and one of the hardest festive colours to get right in a saree. Too bright and it can look harsh. Too muted and it reads more yellow than orange. The right orange for a saree has warmth and depth - think saffron-leaning rather than neon.
For garba night: Our FeatherSoft collection carries warm-toned festive colours that work closest to this palette. Pair with gold zari blouse and antique gold jewellery. The fabric moves beautifully under garba ground lighting.
For morning puja: A saffron or deep orange silk saree in a heavier fabric - look for our Kanjivaram range where warm jewel tones sit closest to orange.
Styling note from Surat garba grounds: In Gujarat, the opening garba night is treated as a statement - women plan Day 1 outfits most carefully. Orange with heavy mirror work or gold zari border is the most common and most photographed combination on Day 1.
Day 2 - 12 October (Monday) - White
Goddess: Maa Brahmacharini | Significance: Purity, peace, devotion
White is the most misunderstood Navratri colour. Many women skip it assuming it's plain, difficult to maintain through a garba night, or too simple. None of that is true if you choose the right white saree.
The white that works for Navratri is white with gold - a heavy gold zari border, gold buttas scattered across the body, or a gold pallu. The contrast between white and gold is one of the richest colour combinations in Indian textiles and one of the most photographed under festive lighting.
House of Vardha Recommendation: Off-White Kanjivaram Viscose Silk Saree with Gold Zari Work - pristine ivory base with scattered gold zari buttas and rich woven gold border. Our most popular white-adjacent saree. Appropriate for both morning puja and evening events. (₹6,999 | Free Shipping)
Off-White Kanjivaram Viscose Silk Saree Gold Zari House of Vardha Navratri Day 2
Garba note: White shows sweat and dirt quickly during dancing. If you are wearing white to garba, choose a slightly off-white or ivory shade rather than pure white - it photographs just as well and hides the evidence of a good garba performance.
Day 3 - 13 October (Tuesday) - Red
Goddess: Maa Chandraghanta | Significance: Courage, power, auspiciousness
Red is the most straightforward Navratri colour - and the most competitive. Everyone wears red on Day 3. The challenge is not finding a red saree but finding a red that stands out on a garba ground full of red.
The answer is the shade and the texture. Venetian red with gold zari reads differently from bright fire-engine red. Silk fabric under garba lighting glows differently from georgette. The gold border width matters - a wide, structured zari border on a red saree is what photographs beautifully.
House of Vardha Recommendation: Venetian Maroon Golden Zari Kanjivaram Silk Saree - our most-reviewed saree at 95+ reviews. Deep Venetian maroon-red with intricate gold zari body and wide border. The shade photographs beautifully under both warm garba ground lights and phone flash. (₹3,599 | Ready to ship)
Venetian Maroon Kanjivaram Silk Saree Gold Zari House of Vardha Navratri Day 3 red
Our customers' feedback on this saree: The most common review phrase on this product is "looked exactly like the photos." That matters for a colour like red where screen rendering is often unreliable.
Day 4 - 14 October (Wednesday) - Royal Blue
Goddess: Maa Kushmanda | Significance: Vastness, calm, creativity
Royal blue is one of the most requested colours in our WhatsApp conversations every Navratri. It is also the colour most buyers are unsure about - it does not have the instant recognition of red or the auspiciousness of green. The women who wear it confidently always say the same thing: "it was the most-commented outfit of the night."
Royal blue with gold zari is a striking combination - the depth of the blue makes gold zari stand out more brilliantly than it does on warmer colours like red or maroon. Under Navratri ground lighting, blue sarees glow in a way that is genuinely unexpected and beautiful.
House of Vardha Recommendation: Cobalt Blue Golden Zari Kanjivaram Silk Saree - deep cobalt blue with gold zari weave, available in our Kanjivaram collection. Strong festive colour with excellent drape. (From ₹2,799)
Also: Teal Blue Zari Work Kanjivaram Silk Saree - 69 reviews, ₹1,999, peacock-teal shade that sits beautifully between royal blue and green. A strong Day 4 and Day 9 option.
Regional note: In Gujarat - Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara - garba is the cultural heartland, and traditional heavy flare and mirror work remain iconic. Royal blue with mirror work embellishment on the border is a specifically Gujarati interpretation of this colour that reads authentically on the garba ground.
Day 5 - 15 October (Thursday) - Yellow
Goddess: Maa Skandamata | Significance: Happiness, vitality, optimism
Yellow is the most joyful Navratri colour - and one of the most flattering across skin tones when chosen correctly. The yellow to look for is not canary or neon - it is a warm, deep yellow leaning toward mustard or golden-yellow. These shades sit beautifully against gold zari and photograph with warmth and richness.
House of Vardha Recommendation: Yellowish Green Gold Zari Kanjivaram Silk Saree - our bestselling warm-yellow Kanjivaram, 100 reviews, bright festive shade with gold zari body and border. (₹3,599 | Ready to ship)
Styling note: Yellow and gold is one of those colour combinations that does not need much jewellery work. Let the zari do the heavy lifting - a minimal antique gold necklace and the saree is complete. Over-accessorising yellow with bright chunky jewellery often competes with rather than complements the warmth of the fabric.
Day 6 - 16 October (Friday) - Green
Goddess: Maa Katyayani | Significance: Nature, growth, prosperity
Green is one of the most-ordered Navratri colours from House of Vardha, and it is the colour with the most interesting range of shades. Lime green, emerald green, forest green, bottle green, and mint all technically qualify as "green" - and they photograph and feel completely differently.
Our customers in Surat tend to prefer deep, rich greens - emerald and bottle green - for Navratri. These shades are auspicious, dramatic, and look exceptional under the warm yellow lighting of most garba grounds. Lime green is popular for the Organza category - the lightness of the fabric works well with a vibrant, high-saturation colour.
House of Vardha Recommendation for Day 6:
For garba night - Lime Green Organza: Lime Green Golden Zari Banarasi Organza Saree - vibrant lime green, Banarasi gold zari, matching pallu and blouse. Light and perfect for dancing. (₹2,319 | Ready to ship)
Lime Green Banarasi Organza Saree House of Vardha Navratri Day 6 green
For morning puja - Bottle Green Kanjivaram: Bottle Green Antique Gold Zari Kanjivaram Silk Saree - deep jewel green with antique gold zari, 100 reviews, structured and traditional. (₹3,599 | Ready to ship)
Surat observation: Green is the second-most competitive colour on the garba ground after red. The differentiation in 2026 is coming from shade - women are moving toward deep forest and bottle green rather than bright emerald to look distinctive.
Day 7 - 17 October (Saturday) - Grey
Goddess: Maa Kalaratri | Significance: Steadiness, fearlessness, protection
Grey is the Navratri colour that makes most people nervous - and it is consistently one of the most striking outfits on the garba ground precisely because so few people wear it confidently.
Grey represents the steadiness and calm that Maa Chandraghanta embodies - the colour of the warrior at rest, composed, fearless, and unshakeable.</cite> In saree terms, the grey to look for is not dull or muted. It is a deep charcoal or slate grey with bright gold or silver zari - the contrast between grey and metallic zari is exceptional under evening lighting.
House of Vardha Recommendation: Platinum Grey Golden Zari Kanjivaram Silk Saree - platinum grey with gold zari body and structured border. 14 reviews, strong festive option, one of the most distinctive sarees for Day 7. (₹3,699 | Ready to ship)
Styling note: Grey is one of those colours where the blouse choice makes or breaks the look. A maroon or deep burgundy contrast blouse with a grey saree is striking. A matching grey blouse makes the outfit disappear. This is Day 7 - make it count.
Day 8 - 18 October (Saturday) - Purple
Goddess: Maa Mahagauri | Significance: Grace, purity, fulfilment of desires
Day 8 is Durga Ashtami one of the most important days of Navratri, dedicated to Maa Mahagauri. This is Kanya Puja day - the morning is formal, devotional, and requires a saree that reads respectful and traditional. The evening is often the most heavily attended garba night of the festival.
Purple in 2026 is the most-requested colour in our under-₹2,000 Kanjivaram category. Our Electric Purple Zari Work Kanjivaram (69 reviews, ₹1,999) is specifically popular with buyers who want to honour the Day 8 colour at a price point that makes sense for what is one day of nine.
House of Vardha Recommendation:
Budget pick: Electric Purple Zari Work Kanjivaram Silk Saree - 69 reviews, electric purple with gold zari. Strong value for Ashtami. (₹1,999 | Ready to ship)
Premium pick: Royal Purple Golden Zari Pure Mysore Silk Saree - luminous royal purple viscose Mysore Silk with rich gold zari body, border, and pallu. Dense brocade pallu, matching blouse. The most aspirational purple option in our catalogue for Ashtami morning puja. (₹5,999 | Dispatches in 10–15 days - order before 25 September)

Day 9 - 19 October (Monday) - Peacock Green
Goddess: Maa Siddhidatri | Significance: Wisdom, completion, all eight siddhis
Day 9 is Maha Navami - the culmination of the festival. Peacock green is the most specific and most beautiful colour in the Navratri calendar - not plain green, but the rich teal-green-blue of a peacock feather. It is the colour of completion and it deserves the most special saree of the nine days.
This is the day most garba events hold their final night - the most attended, most photographed, most celebrated. The saree you choose for Day 9 is the one that appears in the most photos.
House of Vardha Recommendation: Teal Blue Zari Work Kanjivaram Silk Saree - 69 reviews, peacock teal with gold zari. The closest match in our catalogue to the peacock green Navratri colour. A strong choice for the final night. (₹1,999 | Ready to ship)
Regional note from our orders: Peacock green is our single strongest colour for South Indian customers and NRI buyers - specifically because it crosses between the green-dominant South Indian festive palette and the teal that dominates global Indian diaspora fashion. If you are celebrating Navratri in the UK, UAE, or the US, peacock green photographs exceptionally well under artificial indoor lighting.
The Practical Questions Our Customers Ask Every Year
Which day is most important to dress for?
From our Surat experience - Day 3 (red), Day 8 (purple / Ashtami), and Day 9 (peacock green) are the three most carefully planned by our customers. Day 1 (orange) is the opening statement. If budget is limited, prioritise these four and fill in the others with what you have.
Can I wear the same saree more than once?
Absolutely - and most experienced Navratri women do. A gold-dominant saree works across multiple days. An ivory-gold saree works for white day, yellow day, and even grey day depending on how you style it.
What fabric is best for garba specifically?
Light fabrics prevent overheating while dancing. Georgette and lightweight silk allow you to move freely and drape beautifully in motion. Our FeatherSoft sarees are the strongest garba-specific recommendation from our catalogue - ultra-light, woven zari, stays in place during movement.
Should I get a pre-drape for garba nights?
This is the most practical thing you can do for Navratri. Our pre-drape service at ₹999 means your saree is pinned and ready - you step in and go. No draping at the garba venue, no calling your mother for help, no adjusting pins mid-dance. For any saree you are wearing to a garba night, pre-drape is worth every rupee.
What is the one saree to buy if I can only buy one for all of Navratri?
Our honest answer: the Venetian Maroon Kanjivaram at ₹3,599. It covers Day 3 (red) exactly. It works for morning puja on any day. It photographs well under every lighting condition. And it is a saree you will wear again after Navratri - for Diwali, for weddings, for every occasion that needs a classic festive saree. That is why it is our most-reviewed piece.
